Rovereto - Archaeology - Memories

Since 1990, the Fondazione Museo Civico has organized a film festival dedicated to archaeology and both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. The Festival’s format features five days of screenings, talks, exhibitions, training courses, guided tours to discover the local area, and much more—a unique blend of knowledge, emotion, and information.

The event, held every autumn in Rovereto (Trentino - Alto Adige, in the north of Italy), showcases the most recent and spectacular documentaries, docu-fictions, and animated shorts focused on archaeological research and cultural heritage, including sites, monuments, peoples, and distant cultures and traditions. Its goal is to raise public awareness of the beauty and fragility of the treasures from our past and present through the experiential lens of cinema.

On average, 50-60 films from around the world enter the competition each year, divided into thematic sections with dedicated juries. The audience includes film enthusiasts, directors, producers, film students, and archaeology lovers, as well as primary and secondary school students.

Screenings are categorized into sections corresponding to different awards:
archeo   Cinema archeologico
anim   Cultura animata
storia   Storia e memoria
tradizioni   Tradizioni e culture

Each edition is characterized by a specific focus—a theme explored through the films and, most importantly, through keynote speakers and guests:
2022 > Sguardi al femminile | Female Perspectives
2023 > Sguardi sul clima | Climate Perspectives
2024 > Sguardi sulle migrazioni | Migration Perspectives
2025 > Sguardi sull'acqua | Views on Water
2026 > Sguardi sulle città | Gazes upon the cities
